PASSAU

Then as now, Passau is surrounded by a special flair of history, culture, student life, Bavarian cosiness and joie de vivre. It is not for nothing that the three-river city is also called Bavarian Venice.

It is particularly pleasant to walk on a summer evening in the well pedestranized old town. The lights showcase historic buildings well. All combined with a stay in the heart of town - welcome to the mk | hotel passau.

St. Stephen's Cathedral

This baroque building was completed in 1688, but a first church on this site was already mentioned in 450. It is the center of the bishopric of Passau which during the Holy Roman Empire extended to Hungary and was the most important diocese of the Empire. Saint-Etienne is the largest Baroque cathedral north of the Alps and has the largest cathedral organ in the world. From May to October there are organ recitals at noon every day (except Sunday) and concerts every Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

St. Michael Church

This baroque church on the river bank gives Passau its typical Italian town look. It was completed in 1678 and is one of the main Jesuit centers in the region.

Veste Oberhaus Fortress

The fortress was built in 1219 by the prince-bishops of Passau in order to show off their military might and to protect themselves from external enemies and just like citizens of Passau. Today the fortress houses a museum focusing on history from Passau and its surroundings. It also offers one of the best views of the city and the confluence of rivers.
